PflegerIn mit Herz

Introduced in 2012, the PflegerIn mit Herz campaign singles out Austria’s best care sector workers.  Qualified nurses, live-in carers, care workers for the elderly and family carers are all eligible.

The objective is to draw public attention to the topic of care. Austria has an excellent health and care system, with allowances also payable to people requiring lower levels of support, but care is still a taboo subject in the community.

Over 100,000 professional carers currently provide support to around 456,000 patients. Most of those in need of care are looked after by relatives, many of whom are themselves elderly. In addition, more than 40,000 children and young people – known as young carers – give indispensable assistance to family members in need of care.

Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein and Wiener Städtische Versicherung were the initiators of PflegerIn mit Herz, and it has been supported by the Federal Minister of Science, Research and Economy, the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Consumer Protection, and Erste Bank und Sparkassen from the outset. Since 2014 the high-profile campaign has also received the support of the Austrian Economic Chambers and the Austrian Federal Chamber of Labour.
