Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein sponsors second victim
The second victim association, founded in March 2021, supports traumatised health care workers in and after crises: easily accessible, without reports to the employer and independent of the system, in the form of free psychological counselling sessions. In practice, second victim want to initially finance ten psychological counselling session per person seeking help. This is only possible with funding such as provided by Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein. Subsequently, psychologists employed directly by second victim will support those seeking help in the form of counselling and psychotherapy.
They are the heroes of the Corona crisis: people who work in health care and do outstanding everyday work. If this group is permanently torn from their routine activities due to unforeseen serious incidents – such as the pandemic – the specialist literature refers to them as so-called second victims. Members of the association, which is financed exclusively by donations, work entirely on a voluntary basis and are themselves fully employed. Currently they are looking for volunteers who are interested in expanding the association.
