Günter Geyer receives high-level Slovakian honour

The Slovak Republic’s prestigious Golden Biatec Award goes to Günter Geyer, insurance company manager and pioneer of the expansion of Austrian businesses to Central and Eastern Europe in the 1990s.

On Monday 26 September, Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein Supervisory Board Chairman Günter Geyer was presented with the Golden Biatec Award at a ceremony held on the 20th floor of the Ringturm. Upper Austrian-born Geyer joins a select list of internationally renowned recipients of the award that includes former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, former French President Jacques Chirac, US economist Jeffrey Sachs, James D. Wolfensohn, previously President of the World Bank, futurist John Naisbitt, and ex-VW boss Ferdinand Piëch.

Ringturm Wrapping

Ringturm covering 2022 sends out signal of optimism and togetherness

This year, Hungarian artist Dóra Maurer will transform the Ringturm in Vienna into a larger-than-life artwork called With each other – sending out a powerful message of hope after two years shaped by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Entitled ‘With each other’, the 4,000 square metre artwork is made up of a total of 30 printed netting sheets, each around 3m wide and up to 63m long. Diagonally intersecting stripes in a spectrum of bright, cheerful colours trace a path across the facade of the buildings on the Ringstrasse boulevard, overlooking the Danube Canal, in Vienna city centre. Created especially for the wrapping of the Ringturm, the artwork’s origins go back to an elaborate system of geometric and chromatic elements devised by Dóra Maurer some 30 years ago, which she has continued to develop in the intervening years.

10 Years of Social Active Day

10th anniversary: supporting good causes – from Austria to Georgia

Over the past decade, thousands of employees in 22 countries have given a total of 300,000 hours of their time to help people in need.

5 December is International Volunteer Day. Introduced in 1985, this special day focuses on promoting and honouring commitment to voluntary activities worldwide. Every year, employees at the Vienna Insurance Group – Austria’s largest international insurance group – can spend one working day volunteering in support of good causes. Titled Social Active Day, this unique initiative was launched in 2011 – in the middle of the economic and financial crisis – by VIG’s main shareholder, Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein.

Exhibition Opening Campus of Religions

The Ringturm becomes a temporary interreligious meeting place: In the presence of numerous representatives of various religious communities, the exhibition was ceremoniously opened by the Mayor of Vienna, Michael Ludwig, on the evening of 28 September – with strict hygiene and security measures in place.

Discover sacral Waldviertel cultural jewels for free

Under the heading “Discover Art Treasures”, the campaign of Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein will take place on Sunday, 29 August. The “Trogerstift” Altenburg in the Kamptal, the canons’ monastery Geras in the Horn district and the medieval Cistercian monastery Zwettl in the midst of idyllic forests are part of this discovery tour. All three monasteries can be visited free of charge on 29 August – during the respective opening hours as well as the prevailing hygiene measures, the only prerequisite: The keyword “Wiener Städtische” must be mentioned at the respective cash desk. Important: Due to the Corona, there are upper limits for visitors so that the necessary safety distances can be maintained. If there is a high density of visitors, there may also be longer waiting times at the entrance!
