Profile & Vision

Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein is the main shareholder of the Vienna Insurance Group (VIG), one of the biggest listed, multinational insurance groups in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). Headquartered in Vienna, VIG comprises around 50 group companies, which operate in 25 countries and employ about 25,000 people.

As the main shareholder, Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein supports all of the Group’s cultural and social initiatives. There is a strong emphasis on promoting cross-border cultural dialogue, and on supporting the activities of social organisations, especially in the Central and Eastern European countries in which the Vienna Insurance Group has a presence, by means of partnerships and initiatives.

Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein’s strong dedication to sponsorship and cultural engagement is clearly evident at the Ringturm tower, the company’s headquarters. It is a place for people to meet and debate, and Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein regularly hosts events and exhibitions there. The Architektur im Ringturm exhibition series has been showcasing Central and Eastern Europe’s architectural heritage since 1998.

The Ringturm itself is regularly transformed into an artwork − the artistic covering of the tower is one of the largest works of urban art in Europe. The first covering in 2006 featured Don Giovanni by Christian Ludwig Attersee. Since then, artists from Austria and the CEE region have been regularly commissioned to produce works for this monumental canvas. This firmly established institution combines the arts and culture with politics, and juxtaposes history with the future and a sense of togetherness.

Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein always acts in keeping with the principles of a democratic and pluralistic society. Looking beyond national borders and emphasising shared values are overarching aims of the company’s approach to sponsorship and social engagement. These goals are aligned with a clear vision: international bridge building and cultural exchange.
