The seventh covering of the Ringturm, featuring Schleier der Agnes (Veil of Agnes), a vibrantly coloured piece by internationally acclaimed artist Arnulf Rainer, took place in 2014: the work is an expression of the close historical links between Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein and Klosterneuburg Abbey.

“This year’s Ringturm covering celebrates the tradition of close ties between Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein and Klosterneuburg Abbey with a vividly coloured installation. The work explores the story of the abbey’s foundation – known as ‘The Legend of the Veil’ – which revolves around Leopold III, Margrave of Austria, and his wife Agnes. I’m delighted that we were able to commission Arnulf Rainer for this project – an artist of international standing – and make such a strong visual statement about the close historical bond between the two institutions,” explained Günter Geyer, CEO of Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein.

2014 Ringturm wrapping was accompanied by a special exhibition to mark the occasion. Arnulf Rainer’s original work, which provided the motif for the covering 2014, provides the focal point of the show. Exhibits from various points in the history of art illustrated the legend behind the foundation of Klosterneuburg Monastery, which celebrated its 900th anniversary in 2014. The exhibition also took a look at the history of Wiener Städtische Versicherungsverein and its formation 190 years ago, illustrated by numerous contemporary documents.
